Meriden Animal Control Pet of the Week - June 30, 2025

Pet of the Week
6.30.25

Meet Meriden Animal Control's happy and playful older guy named Zeus, who's about 8.5 years old, and he has had a tough life recently.

When Zeus was first surrendered to our shelter, he had been living in a car with multiple other dogs for quite some time. He and one of those other dogs taken in were completely emaciated when we first met them, to the point where we could see all of their ribs, hip bones, and vertebrae.

Since being with animal control, Zeus has steadily gained weight. But, he will need to continue gaining weight for some time.

Don't let Zeus' age fool you, he still has lots of playful energy for playing fetch and going for long walks/hikes. Now that he is feeling better, he loves to chase tennis balls outside and then lay in the shade and chew on a nice toy.

Zeus has not shown any food aggression toward animal control staff, and he is learning to take treats gently from a flat palm.

Because he has lived with other dogs before, animal control is willing to do a meet and greet with a potential doggie sibling. Zeus does seem to get along better with female dogs over male dogs.

Zeus is welcome to go home with a family, who has kids at least 12 years old and who have larger dog experience.

If you are interested in adopting Zeus, please email adopt@savingpawsct.org for an application!

His adoption fee is $75.00.
