Meriden Police Make School Threat Arrest

The Meriden Police Department was made aware of a “Snap Chat” post circulated via social media making threats against “Edison school.”

Collectively, the Meriden Police Department and Meriden Board of Education take threats to our school system, students and staff extremely seriously.

The Meriden Police Department, with the assistance of Meriden Public Schools personnel immediately initiated an investigation. Our Detective and School Resource Division’s requested the assistance of the FBI’s New Haven office.

As a result of our collective investigative efforts, we were able to identify where the threat originated. Detectives made contact with a Edison Middle School student, who allegedly made the threatening post. This was a labor intensive process to identify the student. The students parents have been cooperative.

On Sunday, the student was charged with Threatening in the First Degree and Breach of Peace in the Second Degree. The student was released to his parents' custody. He is scheduled to appear in juvenile court Monday morning.

A crisis intervention specialist responded to the student’s residence and conducted an evaluation.

The student will be subject to further administrative disciplinary action from the Board of Education.

The Meriden Police Department and Meriden Public Schools commend those, who came forward and provided us with information related to this threatening post.

Effective Monday morning, Meriden Police will have an increased presence at Edison Middle School to offer reassurance to staff, parents, and students.
