National Public Works Week, May 19-25, 2024

In honor of National Public Works Week, the City of Meriden Public Works Department held a food drive on Saturday, May 18, at Stop and Shop to benefit the Meriden Soup Kitchen. The NPWW 2024 theme of “Advancing Quality of Life for All” is demonstrated by the Meriden Soup Kitchen, which serves a hot meal to those in need Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Thanks to the generosity exhibited by Meriden residents, we were able to fill a truck with food donations that were delivered Monday morning, May 20, along with $400 in cash donations.

State and City Remind Residents About Rail Safety

Did you know that nationwide, about every three hours, either a person or vehicle is struck by a train?

The Connecticut Department of transportation, which administers the Operation Lifesaver program here in Connecticut, reminds you that no one should walk on rails and whether you are in a vehicle or on foot, please obey the signals at railroad crossings. And should you come to a crossing, where there are no signals, stop, look and listen before crossing.

International Trespass Awareness Day (TRESPAD) is June 5th, 2024, and International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) is June 6th, 2024.
